Microsoft Charity License

Q. Who is eligible for Open Charity pricing?

A. Local charitable organizations are eligible based on the following charity definition underwritten in the Section 88 of Inland Revenue Ordinance

"Charitable Organization" means any entity operated exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes, no part of the net earnings of which inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual, other than:

  • Any entity that receives more than one third of its income from any one person or entity
  • Any entity that is substantially engaged in lobbying, political campaigns or other activities designed to influence legislation
  • Any hospital, health care system or research laboratory
  • Any entity that is eligible to participate in the Microsoft Academic Open License program as an "eligible education customer" as that term is defined in the Microsoft Academic Open License Agreement in effect for your region at the time your order was placed

Q. How is Open Charity different from purchasing retail copies of the software?

A. Instead of buying a new package of software for each computer in your organization, with Microsoft Open Charity License you need to only purchase one media kit for the software, and then purchase enough licenses to cover the remaining amount of computers.

Q. What is the minimum purchase for Open Charity licenses?

A. You can participate in the Open Charity License option with as few as five Microsoft licenses.

Q. Where can I find information about the license program(s) I already have?

A. Customers in the Open License program can use the eOpen tool to view information on their license authorization, purchases and license history.
